He made the comments on an Australian radio station.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>3AWradio journalist Neil Mitchell asked Yiannopoulos whether Australians ought to be concerned about the number of Syrian refugees the nation is taking in.<\/p>\n<p>The former Breitbart journalist and self-proclaimed <em>\u201cfree speech champion\u201d<\/em> replied:<em> \u201cI\u2019m suggesting you should send them back immediately because the only consequence of that is going to be a drain on public services and your daughters raped.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/405904-yiannopoulos-nazi-salute-white\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2017.10\/thumbnail\/59d79366fc7e93940a8b4567.jpg\" alt=\"Milo Yiannopoulos \u00a9 Lucas Jackson\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>However Yiannopoulos, a vehement critic of feminism and Islam \u2013 which he compared to AIDS \u2013 abruptly U-turned once Mitchell told him the refugees were in fact Christians.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if it would make a difference if he found out they were the same religion as him, the Brit said: <em>\u201cWell, of course that makes a difference.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But Mitchell hastened to cut off him, saying: <em>\u201cWell you\u2019ve just called them rapists \u2013 this is the problem, you\u2019ve got half the fact \u2013 you&#8217;ve called them rapists and dole bludgers [lazy welfare recipients] and now they\u2019re Christians so they\u2019re alright.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The conversation turned into a heated debate with Yiannopoulos accusing Mitchell of intentionally trying to trap him.<\/p>\n<p>However, the conservative\u2019s volley of vexed remarks did not stop there.<\/p>\n<p>Yiannopoulos, who earlier this month married his partner in Hawaii, said Australians should refrain from voting \u2018Yes\u2019 to legalizing same-sex marriages. The highest priority for me is making sure no church, no believer anywhere, is required to violate their religious conscience.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He said that rather than bettering gay people\u2019s lives, legislation allowing same-sex marriages is <em>\u201cwarfare [\u2026] designed to punish conservatives and people of faith.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>His tour is set to kick off in Adelaide on December 1, before he travels to Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Milo\u2019s tour Down Under has provoked a widespread backlash, with a petition calling for his visa to be canceled garnering just over 1,000 signatures.<\/p>\n<p>His search for an audience in Australia may reflect an attempt to rehabilitate his tarnished reputation.
