Controversial right-wing firebrand Milo Yiannopoulos labeled thousands of Syrian refugees \u201crapists,\u201d before backtracking on his comments when he discovered they were actually Christian. He made the comments on an Australian radio station.<\/p>\n

3AWradio journalist Neil Mitchell asked Yiannopoulos whether Australians ought to be concerned about the number of Syrian refugees the nation is taking in.<\/p>\n

The former Breitbart journalist and self-proclaimed \u201cfree speech champion\u201d<\/em> replied: \u201cI\u2019m suggesting you should send them back immediately because the only consequence of that is going to be a drain on public services and your daughters raped.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

However Yiannopoulos, a vehement critic of feminism and Islam \u2013 which he compared to AIDS \u2013 abruptly U-turned once Mitchell told him the refugees were in fact Christians.<\/p>\n

Asked if it would make a difference if he found out they were the same religion as him, the Brit said: \u201cWell, of course that makes a difference.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

But Mitchell hastened to cut off him, saying: \u201cWell you\u2019ve just called them rapists \u2013 this is the problem, you\u2019ve got half the fact \u2013 you’ve called them rapists and dole bludgers [lazy welfare recipients] and now they\u2019re Christians so they\u2019re alright.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The conversation turned into a heated debate with Yiannopoulos accusing Mitchell of intentionally trying to trap him.<\/p>\n

However, the conservative\u2019s volley of vexed remarks did not stop there.<\/p>\n

Yiannopoulos, who earlier this month married his partner in Hawaii, said Australians should refrain from voting \u2018Yes\u2019 to legalizing same-sex marriages. There is currently a national survey underway giving them the opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy gut would be to vote against it,\u201d<\/em> he told the Daily Mail Australia ahead of a tour planned for December.<\/p>\n

He said that rather than bettering gay people\u2019s lives, legislation allowing same-sex marriages is \u201cwarfare [\u2026] designed to punish conservatives and people of faith.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

His tour is set to kick off in Adelaide on December 1, before he travels to Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

Milo\u2019s tour Down Under has provoked a widespread backlash, with a petition calling for his visa to be canceled garnering just over 1,000 signatures.<\/p>\n

His search for an audience in Australia may reflect an attempt to rehabilitate his tarnished reputation. Yiannopoulos suffered a particularly serious setback when he appeared to endorse sexual relationships between \u201cyounger boys and older men\u201d<\/em> in an excerpt from \u2018The Drunken Peasants\u2019<\/em> podcast which aired a year ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
