Russia\u2019s defense ministry says it\u2019s the first admission of its kind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The assertion was made in the latest Syria travel warning issued by the State Department on Wednesday. It also mentions Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS\/ISIL].<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTerrorist and other violent extremist groups including ISIS and Al-Qaeda linked Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham [dominated by Al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat Al-Nusra, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization], operate in Syria,\u201d<\/em> the travel <a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/passports\/en\/alertswarnings\/syria-travel-warning.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">warning<\/a> reads.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTactics of ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and other violent extremist groups include the use of suicide bombers, kidnapping, small and heavy arms, improvised explosive devices, and chemical weapons,\u201d<\/em> it said.<\/p>\n<p>Terror groups have targeted roadblocks, border crossings, government buildings and other public areas in major Syrian cities of Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, Homs, Idlib, and Deir-ez-Zor, the State Department acknowledged.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russia\u2019s Defense Ministry said a precedent had been set by Washington acknowledging that Al-Nusra linked terrorists use chemical weapons in Syria.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is the first official recognition by the State Department not only of the presence, but the very use of chemical weapons by Al-Nusra terrorists to carry out terrorist attacks, which we repeatedly warned about,\u201d<\/em> General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the ministry, commented on Friday.<!-- [donotprint] --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ppani\">\n<li>A d v e r t i s e m e n t<\/li>\n<li\/><\/ul>\n<p><!-- [\/donotprint] --><\/p>\n<p>Previously, the US military reported chemical attacks in Syria.\u00a0 Last November, Colonel John Dorrian, a spokesman for the US-led coalition in Iraq, said it is <em>\u201cconcerned about Islamic State\u2019s use of chemical weapons.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c[Islamic State] has used them in Iraq and Syria in the past, and we expect them to continue employing these types of weapons,\u201d<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prisonplanet.com\/state-department-admits-al-nusra-affiliate-using-chemical-weapons-in-syria.html\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RTOctober 20, 2017 The US Department of State admitted that militants linked to Al-Nusra Front are carrying out terrorist attacks using chemical weapons in Syria.
