{"id":329971,"date":"2017-10-11T04:50:56","date_gmt":"2017-10-11T03:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/unsealed-cia-memos-provide-shocking-salt-pit-black-site-details\/"},"modified":"2017-10-11T04:50:56","modified_gmt":"2017-10-11T03:50:56","slug":"unsealed-cia-memos-provide-shocking-salt-pit-black-site-details","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/unsealed-cia-memos-provide-shocking-salt-pit-black-site-details\/","title":{"rendered":"Unsealed CIA Memos Provide Shocking \u2018Salt Pit\u2019 Black Site Details"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>      <!-- START CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-10-09\/unsealed-cia-memos-provide-shocking-salt-pit-black-site-details\"><strong>Zero Hedge<\/strong><\/a><br \/>October 10, 2017<\/p>\n<p><strong>A new batch of 274 CIA documents connected with Bush era torture have just been made public as a result of a lawsuit brought by families of victims. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contained in the documents are newly unearthed details on the CIA\u2019s \u201cblack site\u201d program which reached its peak under Bush\u2019s \u2018war on terror\u2019 as well as shocking details revealing how the agency integrated its contract psychologists into its \u2018enhanced interrogation\u2019 program <strong>in order to give torture a veneer of legality.<\/strong> While much of this story of CIA torture has already slowly come to light over the past few years, especially with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2014\/12\/09\/world\/cia-torture-report-document.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2014 Senate Intelligence Committee report<\/a>, the just released documents <strong>capture internal high level agency discussions revealing a cover-up in action.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many of the memos focus on the CIA\u2019s infamous \u2018Cobalt\u2019 site in Afghanistan (also code named The Salt Pit), routinely described in headlines as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/inside-the-cias-sadistic-dungeon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201csadistic dungeon\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/2016\/10\/04\/hell-in-dark-prison-new-forms-of-torture-at-cia-black-site-revealed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cdark prison\u201d<\/a> for its full sensory deprivation darkness which detainees experienced round the clock, sometimes for years, as well as the two psychologists credited with designing the program of brutal interrogation techniques: John \u201cBruce\u201d Jessen and James Mitchell.<\/p>\n<p>Two surviving prisoners and the family of a detainee who died at the Colbalt site reached an out-of-court settlement with the CIA psychologists in August after a lawsuit was brought for their role in the torture.
