It was only checked once a year to examine the condition of its skin and hair.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/398437-designer-baby-dna-elite\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2017.08\/thumbnail\/59830351dda4c8c8788b4567.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9\u00a0Vladimir Godnik \/ Global Look Press\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bentham\u2019s mummified body has been on display at UCL for the past 150 years.<\/p>\n<p>Showcasing the head will give scientists the chance to verify suggestions the philosopher had Asperger\u2019s syndrome or autism.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed the atheist thinker may have been on the autistic spectrum because biographies cite him as having <em>\u201cfew companions of his age<\/em>\u201d and<em> \u201cbeing morbidly sensitive.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think Bentham would certainly have approved of his head going on public display. It\u2019s what he intended,\u201d<\/em> the curator of collections at UCL Culture, Subhadra Das, said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt has also allowed scientists to test his DNA to see if he was autistic,\u201d<\/em> the curator said, according to the Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe have been working with the Natural History Museum, who have new techniques of studying ancient DNA.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, Das warned the condition of Bentham\u2019s DNA in the mummified head may be an impediment to their research, as it is equivalent to <em>\u201clooking at the shredded pages of a book, so much information is missing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/405547-jeremy-bentham-head-dna\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
