McMaster indicated Sunday that the Trump administration is eager to use the attack to bolster its argument for a ban on travelers from six majority-Muslim countries.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on <em>ABC<\/em>&#8216;s &#8220;This Week&#8221; Sunday morning, McMaster said the White House is examining &#8220;how to protect the American people better, how to ensure that we know who these people are who are moving.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-video\">\n<p>NSA McMaster tells <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GStephanopoulos\">@GStephanopoulos<\/a> that a new travel ban &#8220;is something that we&#8217;re looking at.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ThisWeek?src=hash\">#ThisWeek<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rxisKa68S1\">pic.twitter.com\/rxisKa68S1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 This Week (@ThisWeekABC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ThisWeekABC\/status\/909404878052614144\">September 17, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His comments came two says after Trump<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2017\/09\/15\/assuming-muslims-behind-london-attack-trump-again-drops-know-facts-rule\"> tweeted<\/a> about imposing a &#8220;larger, tougher, and more specific&#8221; ban on travelers to the U.S. than the one he proposed in January. Trump made his comments as authorities were investigating Friday morning&#8217;s attack and was chastised by British officials for the &#8220;unhelpful&#8221; remarks.<\/p>\n<p>ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack on Friday but no evidence or proof of its connection has been found.<\/p>\n<p>The travel ban has come up against widespread protests as well as legal challenges, with federal courts blocking the executive order and states<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2017\/03\/09\/more-states-sue-block-trumps-muslim-ban-another-name\"> filing lawsuits<\/a>. The Supreme Court allowed a suspension of travel from the six countries in question \u2014Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Iran, and Sudan\u2014for 90 days, making exceptions for certain family members. Last week, the high court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2017\/09\/11\/siding-trump-scotus-gives-narrowed-muslim-ban-temporary-stay\">ruled<\/a> that the travel suspension can apply even to refugees who have connections with resettlement agencies in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The court will hear arguments next month regarding the constitutionality of President Trump&#8217;s original\u00a0ban.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2017\/09\/17\/white-house-pushes-stricter-travel-ban-pointing-london-attack\">Common Dreams<\/a>.
