Despite the tension between demonstrators and police, no major incidents were reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Hundreds of people briefly marched through the upscale West County Mall Center mall in Des Peres Saturday, chanting \u201cshut it down!\u201d. Authorities were taking steps to close the mall before protesters arrived, and many shops had already metal security screens over their store fronts. Unlike Friday, however, there were no reported <a href=\"http:\/\/fox2now.com\/2017\/09\/16\/stockley-protesters-march-inside-west-county-mall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">incidents <\/a>between protesters and police.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to see property destruction or see people getting hurt,\u201d<\/em> Elad Gross, a civil rights attorney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-missouri-crime\/more-protests-break-out-in-st-louis-after-acquittal-in-police-shooting-idUSKCN1BQ161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Reuters. <em>\u201cBut this is a protest that addresses injustices not only happening here in St Louis but around the country.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley was acquitted of shooting dead Anthony Lamar Smith, 24, in 2011. Smith was shot five times in his car after being chased by Stockley and his partner on suspicion of being involved in a drug deal. A gun was later found in the car.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/403569-st-louis-police-trample-woman-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE: St Louis police knock older woman to ground &amp; arrest her (PHOTO, VIDEO)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stockley claimed he thought Smith was going to shoot him, but it was only the officer\u2019s DNA was found on the weapon and being heard on an internal police car video saying he was going to kill Smith, which led prosecutors to claim the gun was planted.<\/p>\n<p>Stockley waived his right to a jury trial, allowing Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson to consider the verdict instead. In his ruling, Judge Wilson wrote that he was <em>\u201cnot convinced\u201d<\/em> of Stockley\u2019s guilt.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/403513-st-louis-protest-police-highway-closed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE: Tear gas &amp; arrests, mayor\u2019s home vandalized in St. Louis after ex-cop acquitted of black man\u2019s death<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the verdict was read out, around 600 people marched from the courthouse to center of St Louis, some waving Black Lives Matter placards.
