One that can be dumbed-down at random and with no prior notice, at the whim of the same government workers who enforce the limits and profit from that enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s called Variable Speed Limits and the Feds \u2013 through the Department of Transportation \u2013 are not only encouraging the states to adopt them, they are bribing them to adopt them. Cue Dr. Evil voice \u2013 one billion dollars mulcted from taxpayers has been earmarked to mulct taxpayers a second time via \u201cpilot\u201d VSL programs \u2013 and at least nine states (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/figure\/316661681_fig1_Figure-1-Photo-New-Jersey-Turnpike-variable-speed-limit-and-variable-message-signing\">New Jersey<\/a> \u2013 naturally \u2013 but also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.govtech.com\/fs\/Ohio-Considers-Funding-Smart-Highways-Variable-Speed-Limits.html\">Ohio<\/a>, Wyoming, Oregon, Utah, Florida, Minnesota, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsdot.wa.gov\/NR\/rdonlyres\/528C67B9-7DE7-49A5-8C03-25DA33BF11EB\/0\/ATMfolioApril09sm.pdf\">Washington<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dot.ga.gov\/DriveSmart\/SafetyOperation\/Pages\/VSL.aspx\">Georgia<\/a>) are already deploying VSL.<\/p>\n<p>You may have already seen Variable Limits in action. Instead of the usual metal sign with whatever the number chosen at random happened to be at the time the sign was put up silk-screened permanently on it, an electronic sign \u2013 with a display that can be changed, literally, at the touch of a button.<\/p>\n<p>At 4:30 p.m., the sign reads \u2013 as an example \u2013 75 MPH. But at 4:33 p.m. (and just after you drove past it) the Oz who controls the sign decides the new speed limit shall be 65 MPH. Blink.
