Once again, a huge Trump-Russia story that relied upon anonymous sources has fallen apart.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NBC News dropped what the network hyped as a \u201cpotential bombshell\u201d last week. \u201cManafort Notes From Russian Meet Contain Cryptic Reference to \u2018Donations,\u2019\u201d the original headline<\/a> read. The story claimed that Manafort\u2019s notes from the 2016 Trump Tower meeting with White House aide Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer included the word \u201cdonations\u201d near a reference to the Republican National Committee.<\/p>\n

NBC began walking back the \u201cpotential bombshell\u201d\u00a0almost immediately, issuing a correction the same day noting that the word \u201cdonation\u201d didn\u2019t actually appear in the notes, but quoting one source who said the word \u201cdonor\u201d was in the notes.<\/p>\n

But NBC\u2019s corrected story still wasn\u2019t accurate, according to a new Politico report<\/a>, which said that the word \u201cdonor\u201d didn\u2019t appear in Manafort\u2019s notes. Moreover, Manafort\u2019s notes \u201care not seen as damaging to the Trump family or campaign officials,\u201d Politico reported. The outlet cited several sources who have seen Manafort\u2019s notes, while NBC relied on \u201ctwo sources briefed on the evidence\u201d to make its claim.<\/p>\n
