Trump removed his protective eyewear to wince into the sun\u2019s rays.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>The president was joined by his wife Melania, his son Barron and daughter Ivanka for the nationally celebrated celestial anomaly. They collectively arrived on the Truman Balcony at 2:38pm on Monday afternoon to watch the eclipse unfold, USA Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/onpolitics\/2017\/08\/21\/president-trump-melania-trump-watch-eclipse-white-house-balcony\/586225001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/400453-solar-eclipse-best-social-media-pictures-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2017.08\/thumbnail\/599b564fdda4c8840a8b4567.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Christian Hartmann\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The eclipse in DC was only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/capital-weather-gang\/wp\/2017\/08\/21\/best-images-of-the-partial-solar-eclipse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">partial<\/a>, as opposed to the total solar eclipse experienced in a strip of the country stretching from Oregon to South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Trump initially was not wearing the protective cardboard glasses when he arrived to view the eclipse. The president even ignored an aide who yelled, <a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2017\/08\/21\/yes-trump-briefly-viewed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cDon&#8217;t look,\u201d<\/a> before he glanced at the eclipse without the glasses on, multiple <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/trump-looks-at-sun-during-solar-eclipse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a>\u00a0sources <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/trump-watching-solar-eclipse-20017-photos-2017-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some US citizens <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FilmerJack\/status\/899705002423455745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lampooned<\/a> the president on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/politiCOHEN_\/status\/899705032983142400\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> for not wearing his protective eyegear.<\/p>\n<p>The commander-in-chief eventually put the eyewear on, and gave a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/08\/21\/trump-solar-eclipse-white-house-241872\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thumbs-up<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FLOTUS\/status\/899714364550328320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eclipse<\/a>, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers residing outside of DC also viewed the skies above them in hopes of observing the moon fully obscuring the sun.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) laid back in a chair outside to experience the event and tweeted, <em>\u201cI&#8217;m ready!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) was accompanied by his daughter, Meghan, as they decided to go on a hike to bear witness to the eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>And Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) peered into the sky with his protective eyewear from San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LJohnsonWX\/status\/899680353031299072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Residents<\/a> around the country were also excited to witness the event and flooded <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wolfpackwx\/status\/899685134173130753\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> with photos they snapped of the eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Attorney General Jeff Sessions stood by the first family to experience the eclipse, Yahoo reported.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the group of high-level DC officials on hand looking at the sky at the White House was Interim Communications Director Hope Hicks, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Advisor Omarosa Manigault.<\/p>\n<p>The last total solar eclipse in the US took place on February 26, 1979, and was <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/back-1979-total-solar-eclipse\/story?id=49310831\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">viewable<\/a> from the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P5UurGEnuX0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/400465-trump-eclipse-protective-eye-wear\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
