{"id":319478,"date":"2017-07-30T03:14:42","date_gmt":"2017-07-30T02:14:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/trumps-mexico-wall-prototypes-delayed-despite-house-vote-to-fund-project\/"},"modified":"2017-07-30T03:14:42","modified_gmt":"2017-07-30T02:14:42","slug":"trumps-mexico-wall-prototypes-delayed-despite-house-vote-to-fund-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/trumps-mexico-wall-prototypes-delayed-despite-house-vote-to-fund-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s Mexico wall prototypes delayed despite House vote to fund project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2017.07\/thumbnail\/597b5449dda4c855518b4567.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><time class=\"date date_article-header\">Published time: 28 Jul, 2017 17:45 <\/time><time class=\"date date_article-header\">Edited time: 29 Jul, 2017 19:38 <\/time><\/p>\n<p>        The construction of a new type of wall on the US-Mexico border in the San Diego area has been delayed because of contractors\u2019 complaints about the bidding process, the Trump administration said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Two companies that bid on mock-ups of the proposed border wall with Mexico have submitted formal complaints regarding the process after failing to make it to the second round, AP reported.<\/p>\n<p>While their claims are being reviewed by the Government Accountability Office, the construction of a new border wall in San Diego has been suspended until November, according to Customs and Border Protection, which is <em>\u201cbeyond our original summer 2017 timeline,\u201d<\/em> the agency said in a statement sent to the San Diego Union-Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Trump administration also notified members of Congress about the delay, AP reported.<\/p>\n<p>The House of Representatives has just voted to spend $1.6 billion to build new and fortify existing fencing on the US border with Mexico \u2013 with $251 million of it allocated for building back-up fencing in the already fortified San Diego area. That is in addition to $20 million approved earlier this year to build prototypes of the wall that the Trump administration wanted.<\/p>\n<p>No contracts have been awarded yet for the San Diego prototypes, which were expected to serve as a model for other segments of the wall along the US-Mexico border.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\"><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Don&#8217;t let the fake media tell you that I have changed my position on the WALL. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/856849388026687492\">April 25, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/center><\/div>\n<p>Along with funding for the San Diego barrier, the House has allocated $784 million for 32 miles of new border fencing in other areas and $498 million for 28 miles of levee wall in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump has campaigned on a promise to build the wall, saying open borders have led to drugs and crime pouring into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>He also repeatedly said that Mexico would pay for the wall.
