But the STA was eager to deploy the system, ostensibly to save money on labor costs, and it bypassed vital security checks that would have otherwise prevented Czech and Serbian techies from working on the system.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infosecurity-magazine.com\/news\/swedish-government-blamed-for-mega\/\" target=\"_blank\">Per Infosecurity Magazine<\/a>, the database contained:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>vehicle registration data from every Swedish citizen,\u00a0data on all government\/military vehicles,\u00a0the weight capacity of all roads and bridges,\u00a0names, photos and home addresses of Air Force pilots, police suspects, elite SAS-style operatives\u00a0and anyone in a witness protection scheme.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There are also concerns that the European Union\u2019s secure STESTA network, which was connected to the Swedish government intranet, was also compromised.<\/p>\n<p>Serbia has pivoted closer to Russia in recent years, and there is a concern that information from this database will be obtained by Russian intelligence.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.privateinternetaccess.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/swedish-administration-tried-glossing-leaking-eus-secure-stesta-intranet-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\">According to Swedish Pirate Party founder Rick Falkvinge<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>While it can\u2019t be proven in this specific case that high-value military information in Serbia\u2019s hands also comes into Russia\u2019s hands, it\u2019s one of those things that should&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redice.tv\/news\/the-biggest-data-leak-in-swedish-history-was-also-the-most-avoidable\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been described as \u201cthe biggest leak in Swedish history\u201d, and it\u2019s easy to see why.
