The aircraft went down shortly after about a half mile off shore. Rescue personnel responded immediately and ferried the people to shore.<\/p>\n<p>A Coast Guard official said the helicopter, which had taken off from Westchester Airport, suffered a mechanical failure but did not specify exactly what kind, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/Helicopter-Water-Gilgo-Beach-Long-Island-Ocean-Parkway-435402093.html\">reported<\/a> CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>The Robinson R44 helicopter is designed to land in the water and is often used for tours, marine photography and training purposes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\"><center><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BdnuxAyy8V4?ecver=2\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><center\/><\/center><\/div>\n<p>This particular model has been involved in 221 crashes since 1993, resulting in 203 fatalities, reports CNBC New York, citing the National Transportation Safety Board.<\/p>\n<p>An FAA investigation into the incident has been launched.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/396844-helicopter-emergency-water-landing-new-york\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
