{"id":317819,"date":"2017-07-18T05:00:55","date_gmt":"2017-07-18T04:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/feminist-geographers-encourage-colleagues-not-to-cite-research-of-white-men\/"},"modified":"2017-07-18T05:00:55","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T04:00:55","slug":"feminist-geographers-encourage-colleagues-not-to-cite-research-of-white-men","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/feminist-geographers-encourage-colleagues-not-to-cite-research-of-white-men\/","title":{"rendered":"Feminist Geographers Encourage Colleagues not to cite Research of White Men"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>Two feminist geographers are encouraging their colleagues to be more mindful about citing the research of White males because doing so contributes to \u201cthe reproduction of White heteromasculinity of geographical thought and scholarship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Writing in \u201cGender, Place &amp; Culture: A Journal of Feminist Geography,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/carrie-mott\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carrie Mott<\/a>\u00a0and Daniel Cockayne\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/0966369X.2017.1339022?scroll=top&amp;needAccess=true\" target=\"_blank\">argue<\/a>\u00a0that considering an author\u2019s gender, race or sexuality prior to citation can be an effective \u201cfeminist and anti-racist technology of resistance that demonstrates engagement with those authors and voices we want to carry forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The authors point out that whether an academic\u2019s research is cited by his peers has significant implications for promotion, tenure, and influence.
