{"id":316793,"date":"2017-07-11T10:43:46","date_gmt":"2017-07-11T09:43:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/democrats-seek-to-block-trump-putin-cybersecurity-plan-by-cutting-us-funds\/"},"modified":"2017-07-11T10:43:46","modified_gmt":"2017-07-11T09:43:46","slug":"democrats-seek-to-block-trump-putin-cybersecurity-plan-by-cutting-us-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/democrats-seek-to-block-trump-putin-cybersecurity-plan-by-cutting-us-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrats seek to block Trump-Putin cybersecurity plan by cutting US funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2017.07\/thumbnail\/59648c11fc7e934b018b4567.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><time class=\"date date_article-header\">Published time: 11 Jul, 2017 09:03 <\/time><\/p>\n<p>        Democrats have filed amendments calling to block funding, including from the defense budget, to block any agreement between President Donald Trump and Russia\u2019s Vladimir Putin on a joint cybersecurity unit.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Senator Don Beyer from Virginia introduced the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s proposal to form a \u2018cyber security unit\u2019 with Putin is a terrible idea that would immediately jeopardize American cybersecurity,\u201d <\/em>Beyer <a href=\"https:\/\/beyer.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=623\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>.<em> \u201cTrump must acknowledge that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and take strong, meaningful action to prevent it from happening again in future elections.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The amendment blocks all funding <em>\u201cauthorized to be appropriated\u201d by NDAA or \u201cotherwise made available for fiscal year 2018 for the Department of Defense\u201d<\/em> to any Russia-US efforts on cybersecurity issues.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNone of the funds \u2026 may be obligated or expended to share intelligence, information, equipment, personnel, or facilities related to any cyber agreement entered into with Russia after December 31, 2016,\u201d<\/em> it states.<\/p>\n<p>Two more democrats, Ruben Gallego, a senator from Arizona and Ted Lieu, who represents California&#8217;s 33rd congressional district, filed similar amendments to NDAA, calling to <em>\u201cconfront Russian interference in the 2016 election.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is completely inexplicable that the Administration is apparently planning to partner with Russia on a \u2018new Cyber Security unit\u2019,\u201d<\/em> the joint statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The Putin-Trump discussion on cybersecurity has been a hot topic in the media since the presidents first met in person on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Putin confirmed that he and Trump had shared their views on the issue, adding both had agreed to <em>\u201ccreate a working group and work together on how to jointly monitor security in cyberspace.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/395854-putin-trump-cybersecurity-unit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE: Putin-Trump cybersecurity cooperation to take place, but will take time \u2013 Russia G20 sherpa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Putin also confirmed that the accusations claiming Russia meddled in the US election had been addressed during his conversation with Trump. The Russian president reiterated that there is no reason to believe that Russia interfered in the US electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>Trump tweeted on Sunday that he and Putin had discussed forming an impenetrable cybersecurity unit to prevent election hacking.
