The government\u2019s reluctance to share it has left many concerned about how ethical Britain\u2019s ongoing diplomatic relationship with the Gulf kingdom is.<\/p>\n<p>Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas branded the delay <em>\u201castonishing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe government is sitting on this report but refusing to publish it or give any reason for their continued secrecy,\u201d<\/em> the Brighton Pavilion MP said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/e0y6yxCZPwg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTo defeat terror it\u2019s vital that politicians have full view of the facts, even if they are inconvenient for the government.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She added that the secrecy surrounding the report<em> \u201cleaves question marks over whether their decision is influenced by our diplomatic ties.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Home Office sources insist that, although the report does mention Saudi Arabia, the Gulf theocracy is not its main subject.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister May has always made clear that Britain\u2019s relationship with the Saudis lies at the core of her diplomatic agenda. She visited Riyadh to discuss strengthening trade ties mere days after triggering the Brexit process.<\/p>\n<p>The report, which was commissioned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/395145-may-cameron-dup-phone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May\u2019s predecessor, David Cameron<\/a>, was due to be submitted by Easter last year. It was originally meant to study the origins and extent of funding received by British extremist groups that involve international forces.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to parliamentary questions on the document and its delays, May argued that <em>\u201cministers are considering advice on what is able to be published and will report to parliament with an update in due course.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Be2yM6qQGsM\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It is believed some government insiders think the material is too sensitive to be made public.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday evening, outgoing Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said: <em>\u201cThe government are covering up this report. It\u2019s a scandal that this is sitting in Downing Street gathering dust. The government seems too desperate to keep Saudi Arabia happy rather than stand up to them.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Other party leaders, Jeremy Corbyn of the Labour Party and Nicola Sturgeon of the Scottish National Party (SNP), have also urged Downing Street to make the findings public.<\/p>\n<p>Green Party leader Lucas said, in the light of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/394109-terrorists-human-rights-deportation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Bridge and Manchester Arena attacks<\/a>, the public was <em>\u201cquite rightly asking questions about routes to radicalization, and the funding of terror is central to this.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI urge Theresa May to reveal immediately whose advice they are following as to whether or not to publish this report, and to do all they can to put the facts into the public domain if it is safe to do so,\u201d she said.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In response, Home Office minister Sarah Newton said: <em>\u201cThe review has improved the government\u2019s understanding of the nature, scale and sources of funding for Islamist extremism in the UK.
