(VIDEO)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>        Home Secretary Amber Rudd has been accused of shutting down a speech by an opponent about arms sales to Saudi Arabia during an election hustings this weekend. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Rudd was taking part in a local debate between parliamentary candidates for her seat in Hastings and Rye on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/390850-corbyn-saudi-extremists-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2017.06\/thumbnail\/5934664fc461888c608b45ae.JPG\" alt=\"British opposition leader and Labour Party candidate, Jeremy Corbyn \u00a9 Andrew Yates\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Among the panelists was the one-time HSBC whistleblower Nicholas Wilson, also known as Mr Ethical, who is running as an independent candidate in the southern English seat.<\/p>\n<p>Replying to a question about <em>\u201claw and order,\u201d<\/em> Wilson began to speak about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/390898-terrorism-corbyn-may-debate\/\">Prime Minister Theresa May\u2019s alleged links<\/a> to international financial institutions and the regime of Saudi Arabia, which the Conservative leader visited in April.<\/p>\n<p>In his attack on the Conservative government, Wilson said May\u2019s visit to Riyadh included <em>\u201cselling arms for BAE Systems and doing other business for HSBC.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/shows\/sophieco\/390933-isis-syria-iraq-europe\/\">Saudi Arabia are the country responsible for IS<\/a> [Islamic State, formerly ISIS\/ISIL] and they support IS,\u201d<\/em> Wilson claimed during the debate in St Mary\u2019s Church, Rye.<\/p>\n<p>However, when Wilson claimed Britain <em>\u201csuppl[ies] arms to Saudi Arabia,\u201d<\/em> the hustings chair cut him off and asked him to change the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Seconds earlier, in a moment caught on camera, Rudd was seen talking to the chair and passing him a piece of paper.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson was then allowed to continue for a few more seconds, and started to say: <em>\u201cWe are talking about Manchester. That is why MI5 are sending kids from Manchester to Libya and\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TEcMW6RmC_w\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But when he is again stopped, Wilson cries out <em>\u201cam I being censored?\u201d<\/em> and the crowd is heard complaining.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOK, so, soft on crime, soft on the causes of crime. They want to abolish the Serious Fraud Office which is independent, so that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/390366-amber-rudd-saudi-arabia-arms\/\">Amber Rudd can then be in charge of prosecution<\/a> through the National Crime Agency,\u201d<\/em> Wilson went on to say before handing over the microphone.<\/p>\n<p>The chair, who is unnamed but is seen in a clerical collar, then stops the intervention on the basis that it was a <em>\u201cpersonal attack\u201d<\/em> he wanted to avoid.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhy? Come on,\u201d<\/em> a member of the audience heckled.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPeople don\u2019t know about these things because of censorship,\u201d<\/em> Wilson says before the chairman takes the mic.<\/p>\n<p>The video was shared online the following day and quickly went viral, with over 300,000 views on YouTube in one day.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cCensoring a political opponent, with a valid viewpoint, which is not a personal attack, is a new low for the Tories,\u201d<\/em> a Twitter user named Nick Collins wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Comedy writer Graham Linehan echoed the feeling of injustice, tweeting a link to the video with the caption: <em>\u201cStill can\u2019t get over Amber Rudd shutting this guy down so brazenly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>RT contacted the Conservative Party for a comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/390938-rudd-saudi-arms-sales\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
