Back in 2013, Boris Johnson also said \u2018not even Hitler used chemical weapons\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>While Donald Trump\u2019s press secretary Sean Spicer was being drubbed for his Hitler chemical weapons gaffe, Boris Johnson was probably praying that the almost identical comments he made in 2013 wouldn\u2019t resurface.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Appearing on Channel 4\u2019s The Last Leg to discuss the Syria crisis in September of 2013, Johnson, who was then mayor of London, claimed that \u201cnot even Hitler used chemical weapons, as far as I can remember,\u201d seemingly forgetting about the several million Jews, homosexuals, Romani people, dissidents, and people with disabilities that were gassed to death in extermination camps.<\/p>\n<p>Mindful of the use of Zyklon B in the concentration camps, the host said: <em>\u201cThere is an argument to say that he did use chemical weapons at some point.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gaffe-prone Johnson backtracked, saying: <em>\u201cIn the theatre of war, as far as I can remember, and I stand to be corrected on this, I don\u2019t believe that even the Nazis used chemical weapons.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Johnson also said it was a<em> \u201cgreat shame\u201d<\/em> that the UK was unable to take military action to punish Syrian President Bashar Assad for allegedly using chemical weapons, as the House of Commons had scuppered a proposal for British involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Spicer was forced to apologize after claiming on Tuesday that Hitler did not use chemical weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Comparing the Nazi leader to Assad, Spicer said:<em> \u201cWe didn\u2019t use chemical weapons in World War Two. You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn\u2019t even sink to using chemical weapons.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Asked to clarify his remarks, Trump\u2019s press secretary added: <em>\u201cI think when you come to sarin gas, he was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A reporter yelled out that the Jews had been gassed. Spicer responded: <em>\u201cHe brought them into the Holocaust centers \u2013 I understand that. But I\u2019m saying in the way that Assad used them, where he went into towns, dropped them down into the middle of towns.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YNebvB67l1s\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Spicer apologized for making<em> \u201cinexcusable and reprehensible\u201d<\/em> comments after he was accused of being insensitive to Jews and Holocaust survivors, saying<em> \u201cthere\u2019s no comparing atrocities,\u201d<\/em> while drawing a distinction between Assad and the German dictator.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI got into a topic that I shouldn\u2019t have and I screwed up,\u201d <\/em>he said in an interview in Washington, adding<em> \u201cI would ask obviously for folks\u2019 forgiveness.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/384496-johnson-hitler-nazi-holocaust\/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
