RAF Typhoon fighters will deploy to Romania in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter aircraft will deploy to Romania in May as part of NATO\u2019s continued militarization of Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text js-mediator-article\">\n<p>The initiative will see four Typhoons from RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, deploy to Mihail Kogalniceanu Airbase in Romania until September.<\/p>\n<p>They will carry out patrols of the Black Sea area as part of the Southern Air Policing mission conducted under NATO command. The UK is the first ally to provide aircraft for the task.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The UK is stepping up its support for NATO\u2019s collective defense from the north to the south of the alliance,<\/em>\u201d said Defense Secretary Michael Fallon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>With this deployment, RAF planes will be ready to secure NATO airspace and provide reassurance to our allies in the Black Sea region,<\/em>\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement follows the deployment of hundreds of British troops to Estonia to function as a \u2018<em>tripwire<\/em>\u2019 against what UK commanders have called Russian aggression.<\/p>\n<p>The NATO battle group in Estonia will be stationed at Tapa.<\/p>\n<p>The UK will contribute the bulk of multinational force in Estonia, sending in a total of 800 soldiers.France will post 300 soldiers to Estonia \u2013 to be replaced by the Danes in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>All troops will act in conjunction with Estonia\u2019s 1st Infantry Brigade.The deployment is designed to counter an \u201c<em>increasingly assertive Russia<\/em>,\u201d Fallon said on the first 130 troops\u2019 departure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>NATO is stepping up its commitment to collective defense,<\/em>\u201d Fallon said, according to Sky News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>British troops will play a leading role in Estonia and support our US allies in Poland, as part of wider efforts to defend NATO.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/382587-typhoons-romania-russia-threat\/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
