The \u2018Bad Boys of Brexit<\/a>\u2018 who led the campaign to break Britain away from the European Union<\/a> have taken on a new exit challenge: splitting California <\/a>into two states.<\/p>\n

Former UKip leader Nigel Farage<\/a> and Leave backer Arron Banks have just returned from the United States, where they helped raise $1million (\u00a3800,000) for a \u2018Calexit\u2019 campaign, which would split California into two eastern and western regions.<\/p>\n

There are several \u2018Calexit\u2019 campaigns competing for a referendum in the United States, with one aiming to remove the state from America entirely as a response to President Donald Trump<\/a> being elected last year.<\/p>\n

Farage and Banks, who led the \u2018Leave.EU\u2019 campaign, appear to be pitting the eastern, more rural side of California against the western \u2018coastal elite\u2019 liberals in Los Angeles and San Francisco.<\/p>\n

The Western side of the state would likely continue to vote Democrat in elections.<\/p>\n

Farage and Banks\u2019 goal is to hold a referendum during the US midterm elections in 2018, according to The Sunday Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n
