However, the ESSA did little to ease the burden, and the new changes under DeVos do not lessen the number of tests either.<\/p>\n<p>DeVos praised the modifications as being a way to \u201c<em>streamline<\/em>\u201d the ESSA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The plans each state develops under the streamlined ESSA template will promote innovation, flexibility and accountability to ensure every child has a chance to learn and succeed,<\/em>\u201d she said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/us-secretary-education-betsy-devos-announces-release-updated-essa-consolidated-state-plan-template\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An FAQ released along with the modified template explained that the US Education Department \u201c<em>strongly encourages<\/em>\u201d state educational agencies to consult with stakeholders for feedback. A spokesperson for the department was asked by the Washington Post about the discrepancy between the language of the bill and the guidance in the FAQ. \u201c<em>The Secretary\u2019s statement simply amplified what\u2019s in the statute<\/em>,\u201d the spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/answer-sheet\/wp\/2017\/03\/14\/did-betsy-devos-just-ask-states-to-ignore-part-of-federal-education-law\/\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"Delete READ MORE DeVos backlash: Parents threaten to homeschool kids after appointment \/viral\/376865-devos-education-backlash-homeschool\/\">READ MORE: DeVos backlash: Parents threaten to homeschool kids after appointment<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The education secretary has previously voiced opposition to other federal education regulations.
