The investigative journalists at Project Veritas<\/a> are at it again, and this time they visited local police departments across the nation and asked law enforcement officials what residents should do if they are threatened by a break-in, armed robbery or other violent crime.<\/p>\n

Most of the localities visited, like New York and New Jersey, have restrictive gun laws, so you can imagine that the answers were\u2026 quite creative (and not very encouraging).<\/p>\n

What happens between the time I call 9-1-1 and the time you get there?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Law Enforcement Officer \u2014 Bronxville, NY: \u201cIt takes a couple minutes to get there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Project Veritas: \u201cOK, in the two minutes, though, what do i do?\u201d<\/p>\n

LEO: \u201cIn the two minutes what do you do?\u201d<\/p>\n

PV: \u201cYeah:<\/p>\n

(awkward pause)<\/em><\/p>\n

LEO: \u201cThat\u2019s a good question.\u201d<\/p>\n

PV: \u201cBasically, in just that two minutes I\u2019m on my own?\u201d<\/p>\n

LEO: \u201cYeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

LEO: \u201cLook on the internet about how to get a gun permit.\u201d<\/p>\n

PV: \u201cHow long does that take to get?\u201d<\/p>\n

Here are some other suggested self defense techniques you can apply in the event your life is threatened and police are minutes away:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s 2013. It\u2019s the United Stated of America. You lock your doors and hope nothing happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we have call boxes. That\u2019s why we have safe zones. That\u2019s why we have the whistles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLock yourself in a room and call us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust make noise. I would just make noise. It generally scares people off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would scream. Let somebody know I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLock yourself in a bedroom. Start yelling and screaming, so maybe the guy breaking hears that somebody\u2019s home and runs out the door.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you pick up a bat and start hitting somebody if he comes in your home. You\u2019re allowed to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you just take your cell phone out, put it up to your ear, and call 9-1-1, a lot of times that makes people think twice before they do something.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could leave the home if you can get to an exit. You know, you could leave the home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPut some kind of two-by-four stick or something in the window so you can jam it up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn case of emergency, I\u2019m gonna do what I have to do. Go get some bleach. Go get some ammonia.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026 \u201c[you’re on your own] unless you have a dog\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a man enters your home, all bets are off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re just asking questions that I can\u2019t answer for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to a recent city-by-city response time report at American Police Beat<\/a>, it takes police in major metropolitan areas about 10 minutes to respond to an emergency 9-1-1 call. And in some areas, police response times are so slow that neighbors have been forced to organize themselves<\/a> into patrols.<\/p>\n

If you live in a state where it\u2019s still legal to carry a personal self defense firearm, you can feel comfortable being \u201con your own.\u201d<\/p>\n

If not, you may want to head down to your local hardware store and pick up a two-by-four, some bleach, and a whistle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
