{"id":296212,"date":"2017-02-23T15:35:02","date_gmt":"2017-02-23T14:35:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/number-of-romanian-bulgarian-immigrants-coming-to-britain-hits-record-high-after-brexit-vote\/"},"modified":"2017-02-23T15:35:02","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T14:35:02","slug":"number-of-romanian-bulgarian-immigrants-coming-to-britain-hits-record-high-after-brexit-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/number-of-romanian-bulgarian-immigrants-coming-to-britain-hits-record-high-after-brexit-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Number of Romanian &amp; Bulgarian immigrants coming to Britain hits record high after Brexit vote"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>        Immigration from Romania and Bulgaria to the UK following the June 2016 EU referendum has hit a record high, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The number of people entering Britain from the two Eastern Europe states is at its <em>\u201chighest estimated level\u201d<\/em> &#8211; up 19,000 to 74,000 in the last year to September 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The increase contrasts with numbers from the &#8216;Ascension 8&#8217; countries like Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, which has fallen by 10,000.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/378164-farage-trump-rape-sweden\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2017.02\/thumbnail\/58ac7a69c46188947f8b45d2.jpg\" alt=\" FILE PHOTO: U.S. President Donald Trump (R) and Nigel Farage \u00a9 &#13;&#10;Jonathan Bachman\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The ONS also reported the first substantial fall in net migration for the past four years, down by 49,000 t0 273,000.<\/p>\n<p>Although the drop may come as a relief to Prime Minister Theresa May, it is far from the 100,000 target set by the Conservative government.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 165,000 EU citizens have come to the UK, compared with 164,000 non-EU citizens, while 56,000 British citizens left the UK.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAlthough net migration in the year to September 2016 has not seen a statistically significant change, we have seen a statistically significant decrease in net migration among EU8 citizens and non-EU citizens from Africa, the Americas and Oceania,\u201d<\/em> an ONS statistician said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is the first release to contain long-term international migration estimates including three months of data following the EU referendum.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to the Home Office, 65 percent of people moving to the UK had a job lined up, of which 113,000 were EU migrants.<\/p>\n<p>The findings come a day after Brexit Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/378264-eu-migrant-workers-brexit\/\">David Davis<\/a> told a meeting in Estonia <em>\u201cthe door won\u2019t suddenly shut\u201d<\/em> for EU migrants.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed it would be <em>\u201cyears and years\u201d<\/em> before British people can replace <em>\u201ctalented\u201d<\/em> migrants\u2019 working in the UK.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe hospitality sector, hotels, and restaurants, in the social care sector, working in agriculture, it will take time. It will be years and years before we get British citizens to do those jobs,\u201d <\/em>Davis said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDon\u2019t expect just because we\u2019re changing who makes the decision on the policy, the door will suddenly shut.
