Thousands of people have turned out in support of women\u2019s rights in Washington DC as part of a show of action on Donald Trump\u2019s first day as US president. <\/p>\n
Reports on Saturday suggest that as many as 500,000 people have turned up to make the walk from Independence Avenue towards the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue.<\/p>\n
According to Women\u2019s March organizers, the event aims to protect human rights which have been \u201cthreatened\u201d<\/em> and \u201cinsulted\u201d<\/em> during the recent US presidential election.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Women\u2019s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women\u2019s rights are human rights,\u201d<\/em> the group said online<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n READ MORE: \u2018Grab them by the p***y\u2019: Leaked audio of Trump cause GOP backlash<\/a> First aid sites and lactation tents have been set up along the two-mile walk to accommodate all people hoping to take part in the demonstration.\u00a0<\/p>\n Images show throngs of people making their way to the starting point on the city\u2019s metro and bus services.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many women were pictured sporting so called pink \u2018pussy hats\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n Hillary Clinton, Trump\u2019s opponent during the presidential race, tweeted a message of support for the demonstration.<\/p>\n \u201cThanks for standing, speaking & marching for our values.
