{"id":291039,"date":"2017-01-21T04:12:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-21T03:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/anti-trump-protesters-drop-banners-from-london-bridges-video\/"},"modified":"2017-01-21T04:12:13","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T03:12:13","slug":"anti-trump-protesters-drop-banners-from-london-bridges-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/anti-trump-protesters-drop-banners-from-london-bridges-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Trump protesters drop banners from London bridges (VIDEO)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2017.01\/thumbnail\/5881e45ac46188f5398b458c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        London joined cities across the globe in hosting anti-Donald Trump protests ahead of the US president-elect\u2019s inauguration ceremony in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Protesters took action in more than 150 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/373927-trump-twitter-wrong-ivanka\/\">locations across Britain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A 25-meter-long banner reading <em>\u201cBridges Not Walls\u201d<\/em> was dropped from London\u2019s iconic Tower Bridge in the early morning.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D6Qiq69vC2g\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Many other bridges over London\u2019s River Thames were included in the protest, among them Westminster Bridge next to the Houses of Parliament, where campaigners held a banner reading <em>\u201cmigrants welcome here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOn Trump\u2019s inauguration day we\u2019re taking action to show our support for groups under attack \u2013 here in the UK, across Europe and in the USA \u2013 and to reject the rise of a dangerous and divisive far-right politics,\u201d<\/em> said Bridges Not Walls campaign spokeswoman Nona Hurkmans.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe won\u2019t let the politics of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/371270-trump-scotland-golf-urinate\/\">hate peddled by the likes of Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0take hold. What happens next is up to us and by standing together we can show that the rhetoric of fear and hate have no place in our society.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Freezing temperatures and mist did not stop protesters, who were supported by the Green Party, the Liberal Democrats\u2019 LGBT group and environmentalist group People &amp; Planet.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are part of a wider action going right across the UK about bridges not walls, that\u2019s on the day of Trump\u2019s inauguration to say we can be so much better than this,\u201d<\/em> Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley said at the Tower Bridge stunt.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe need to reach out, we need to recognize that we are citizens of the world. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/373440-smog-pollution-deadly-environment\/\">And as the Green Party<\/a>, we are particularly making a point about refugees.
