Last month, the former prime minister said he was setting up the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) \u201cafter the political earthquakes in the UK with Brexit and with the American election.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Latest financial statements published today show TB gifted nearly \u00a39.3m to his new not for profit organisation: https:\/\/t.co\/l0G5KLay8h<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Tony Blair Office (@tonyblairoffice) January 4, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n Blair has insisted he is not personally returning to front-line politics, but wants to help fight the surge in right-wing and left-wing populism across Europe and America seen through the rise of Donald Trump and Britain voting to leave the EU.<\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n Populism is generally defined as a political style of action used to mobilize parts of society that feel alienated from a government seen as controlled by an out-of-touch, closed elite.<\/p>\n Populism is often linked with political figures regarded as outside the mainstream.<\/p>\n \u201cI care about my country and the world my children and grandchildren will grow up in; and want to play at least a small part in contributing to the debate about the future of both,\u201d<\/em> Blair said last month.<\/p>\n He said his project will not be a think tank \u201cas there are enough of those,\u201d<\/em> but a forum for building a \u201cfresh agenda for the centre ground.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n On Wednesday, he announced he had transferred \u00a39.3 million to TBI from his consultancy and lobbying firm Windrush Ventures, the main company previously running his business interests, according to the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n In a statement released yesterday, his office said TBI is \u201cfounded with the purpose of making globalization work for all.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIts objectives include helping countries alleviate poverty, raising people\u2019s standards of living, fostering religious and cultural tolerance and advancing peace and reconciliation.<\/em><\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n \u201cMr Blair is the sole owner and Executive Director of TBI. On his instruction, the articles of association stipulate that he will not receive any salary or remuneration for this role.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Blair\u2019s office said the transfer had taken place to provide \u201cseed funding\u201d<\/em> for the institute and its new premises, as well as to \u201censure the continuity of operations, which includes the existing staff contracts and property lease.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Blair has been heavily criticized since quitting as PM in 2007 for raking in millions of pounds from advising companies and governments around the world.<\/p>\n Blair\u2019s clients have included the governments of Mongolia and Colombia, Abu Dhabi\u2019s sovereign wealth fund, and President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, an autocrat who was re-elected in April 2015 with 98 percent of the vote.<\/p>\n Blair has said he will continue to operate a \u201csmall number of personal consultancies,<\/em>\u201d but expects to spend 80 percent of his time doing unpaid work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Via RT<\/a>.
