{"id":288262,"date":"2017-01-03T02:19:53","date_gmt":"2017-01-03T01:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/1565-refugees-diagnosed-with-active-tb-since-2012-three-times-more-than-previously-reported\/"},"modified":"2017-01-03T02:19:53","modified_gmt":"2017-01-03T01:19:53","slug":"1565-refugees-diagnosed-with-active-tb-since-2012-three-times-more-than-previously-reported","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/1565-refugees-diagnosed-with-active-tb-since-2012-three-times-more-than-previously-reported\/","title":{"rendered":"1,565 Refugees Diagnosed with Active TB Since 2012, Three Times More Than Previously Reported"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>Between 2012 and 2015, 1,565 refugees were diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB) in the United States, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/statistics\/reports\/2015\/pdfs\/2015_surveillance_report_fullreport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">annual reports<\/a> published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).<\/p>\n<p>The CDC data, which has been public but obscure until now, shows that the number of refugees diagnosed with active TB in recent years is more than three times greater than previously reported by any media outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The number of refugees diagnosed with TB in the United States has increased every year since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/statistics\/reports\/2012\/\" target=\"_blank\">2012<\/a>, the first year the CDC began publishing data on foreign-born cases of the disease by category, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/statistics\/reports\/2012\/\" target=\"_blank\">358 were diagnosed<\/a>. In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/statistics\/reports\/2013\/pdf\/report2013.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2013<\/a>,\u00a0396 refugees were diagnosed with TB. The following year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/statistics\/reports\/2014\/pdfs\/tb-surveillance-2014-report_updated.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2014<\/a>, 402 refugees were diagnosed with TB, and in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tb\/statistics\/reports\/2015\/pdfs\/2015_surveillance_report_fullreport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2015<\/a>, the number of refugees diagnosed with TB rose again to 409. Data for 2016 has not yet been reported.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"784\" src=\"http:\/\/redice.tv\/a\/i\/c\/16\/12\/IMAGE_1_RefugeesTB.jpg\" width=\"960\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In October, Breitbart News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2016\/10\/24\/77-cases-active-tb-among-sub-saharan-migrants-minnesota-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that 476 cases of active TB among refugees have been reported in the fifteen states that made that data available. Thirty-five states did not make the\u00a0data available, even though they had apparently reported it to the CDC:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>At least eight cases of active TB were diagnosed among refugees upon their arrival in Minnesota in 2015, bringing the total number of cases of active TB among refugees in Minnesota over the past six years to at least 304.
