It carries two huge guns that can hit targets 63 nautical miles (116 kilometers) away by firing Long Range Land-Attack Projectile (LRLAP) rounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/371120-zumwalt-destroyer-unmitigated-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\">READ MORE: \u2018Unmitigated disaster\u2019: US Navy\u2019s Zumwalt destroyer project blasted as wasteful &amp; incapable<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Manufacturer Lockheed Martin <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lockheedmartin.com\/us\/products\/lrlap.html\" target=\"_blank\">say<\/a> the rounds are <em>\u201cboth the most accurate and longest-range guided projectile in US Navy history.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, as RT.com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/365627-zumwalt-warship-projectile-cancelation\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> in November, the navy canceled their order of LRLAP shells due to the high cost &#8211; between $800,000 and $1 million per round.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ST_gpsdTaZI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Because they are the only round designed for the Zumwalt\u2019s Advanced Gun System, the navy has few options in their search for replacements. They are believed to be considering Raytheon\u2019s 155 millimeter Excalibur 1b, BAE Systems\u2019 Multi-Service Standard Guided Projectile (MS-SGP), and the Hyper Velocity Projectile (HVP).<\/p>\n<p>Jane&#8217;s Defence Weekly are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janes.com\/article\/66566\/usn-considers-options-for-replacing-zumwalt-s-lrlap-projectile\" target=\"_blank\">reporting<\/a> that the Navy is leaning towards Excalibur because it is the only one of the three alternative projectiles currently in production. It costs about $68,000 per round, according to the publication.<\/p>\n<p>Raytheon\u2019s website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raytheon.com\/capabilities\/products\/excalibur\/\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a><em>\u201cthe Excalibur weapon provides accurate first-round effects at all ranges in all weather conditions.
