Retired US Army Lieutenant General Flynn came under scrutiny in 2010 after an unnamed Navy Intelligence specialist accused him – then a Major-General – of leaking secrets to \u201cvarious\u201d<\/em> military officers and officials. At the time, Flynn served as US military intelligence chief in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n A number of US Army documents<\/a>, obtained by the Washington Post, show that the informant shared \u201cUnited States classified information\u201d<\/em> while in Afghanistan \u201cwithout proper authorization.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n As the case remains classified, the Army\u2019s Judge Advocate General pressed by the Post\u2019s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, released only four pages of the \u201csecret\u201d<\/em> investigation.<\/p>\n Following the informant’s tip, the head of US Central Command \u201cinitiated\u201d<\/em> a \u201cthorough\u201d<\/em> probe. Titled AR 15-6, it was conducted by \u201ca properly appointed official,\u201d<\/em> who found no misconduct in Flynn\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n According to the papers, it was established that \u201cthe sharing of classified information was not done knowingly and there was no actual or potential damage to national security.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n The Department of Defense Inspector General also reviewed the investigation and \u201cconcurred\u201d<\/em> with the findings.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Commander, CENTCOM review the AR 15-6 investigation and noted the efforts to properly cleanse the foreign officer\u2019s read-books. He further stated that there was no evidence of senior officer misconduct, rather there was keen attention to mission accomplishment in a coalition, combat environment,\u201d<\/em> the documents read.\u00a0<\/p>\n Hence, no actions were taken against Flynn. Neither has the probe affected his promotion to Lieutenant General as no \u201clegal objections to the nomination\u201d<\/em> were found by Office of the Secretary of Defense and General Counsel of the Department of Defense either.\u00a0<\/p>\n With Flynn\u2019s \u201cexceptional qualifications and dedicated service,\u201d<\/em> his promotion\u00a0was strongly supported by the Department of the Army. According to the papers, his appointment as lieutenant general was said to be \u201cin the best interest of the Department of Defense and the United States of America.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n While the documents provided by the Post do not reveal the nature of the information shared by Flynn, he himself did not make a secret of the case. In an August interview<\/a>\u00a0with the Post, he said that the investigation on him \u201cwas for sharing intelligence with the Brits and Australians in combat.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Flynn called the probe \u201csubstantiated\u201d<\/em> because \u201cactually I did it,\u201d<\/em> but stressed that he did it with “the right permissions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cAccuse me of sharing intelligence in combat with our closest allies, please,\u201d<\/em> he told the Post\u2019s Dana Priest, stressing that he was \u201cproud\u201d<\/em> of what he did.<\/p>\n The Post has drawn parallels between Flynn\u2019s investigation and the case of Hillary Clinton, who has for months been under the FBI probe over the use of her home-brewed server and the use of her private emails during her tenure at the State Department.<\/p>\n While campaigning for Donald Trump in the race for the White House, Flynn supported \u201cLock her up\u201d<\/em> chants and speculated that if he was in Clinton\u2019s shoes he would \u201cbe in jail today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Washington Post\u2019s report has stirred harsh criticism from Flynn\u2019s son, Michael Flynn, Jr., who accused the newspaper of spreading \u201cfake news.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Another article by the failing FAKE news that is the Compost..should they continue to operate when they continue to get everything so wrong? https:\/\/t.co\/m4YoNNnPJE<\/a><\/p>\n
