{"id":283530,"date":"2016-12-09T08:22:58","date_gmt":"2016-12-09T07:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/muslim-leaders-call-for-halal-alternative-to-peppa-pig\/"},"modified":"2016-12-09T17:38:38","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T16:38:38","slug":"muslim-leaders-call-for-halal-alternative-to-peppa-pig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/muslim-leaders-call-for-halal-alternative-to-peppa-pig\/","title":{"rendered":"Muslim Leaders Call For Halal Alternative to Peppa Pig"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>Islamic leaders in Australia are urging parents to help raise funds for a company which wants to make a series of \u201chalal cartoons\u201d as an alternative to <em>Peppa Pig<\/em>, telling followers that Allah will reward them if they do.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) posted a video to its Facebook page urging parents to donate to production company One4Kids, which makes Islamic themed children\u2019s programmes, to fund a cartoon titled <em>Barakah Hills<\/em>, pitched as a \u201chalal\u201d alternative to popular pre-school show <em>Peppa Pig<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Aiming to raise AUD$20,000 (\u00a312,000), the company said the show\u2019s \u201cmain objective is to show children what it is like to be a practising Muslim as well as a good citizen in their community\u201d. The cartoon is set in a predominantly Muslim town, the BBC has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-australia-38218118\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One4Kids producer Subhi Alshaik told the BBC he enjoyed <em>Peppa Pig<\/em> but that \u201capparently there are messages in there that turn kids into brats\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a fan of <em>Peppa Pig<\/em> like many people are\u2026 Muslim, non-Muslim, pig haters, pig lovers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought, maybe we should produce an alternative that is about everyday life.
