A Trump-inspired \u201chate crime\u201d\u00a0at a university\u00a0in Chicago\u00a0has turned out to be a hoax.<\/p>\n

An openly bisexual senior at North Park University\u00a0claimed she was the recipient of a homophobic note and hateful emails following Donald Trump\u2019s win in the presidential election. But the school president reported Tuesday<\/a> the notes are \u201cfabricated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor Volk said she found a note taped to her door<\/a> that read \u201cBack to hell\u201d and \u201c#Trump\u201d and included homophobic slurs following the election, as well as several anonymous emails with similar messages. She reported the messages on her Facebook, and spoke to the press about the incidents. \u201cI just want them to stop,\u201d she told NBC News last week.<\/p>\n

Volk also said\u00a0she was confident\u00a0the school would investigate.\u00a0Indeed, the university\u2019s president\u00a0announced Tuesday the notes were a hoax, and that Volk is no longer enrolled at the university.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are confident there is no further threat of repeated intolerance to any member of our campus community stemming from this recent incident,\u201d David Parkyn said in a statement on behalf of the university.<\/p>\n
