Most people probably don\u2019t even notice when it scrolls across the screen at the end of the Golden Globes telecast or some other awards show. But a Chinese billionaire <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-dick-clark-m-a-wanda-idUSKBN12Z05Y\">just agreed to buy it<\/a> for about $1 billion\u2014and that\u2019s just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s new owner is Wang Jianlin, a 62-year-old former People\u2019s Liberation Army commander turned real estate developer. He is one of China\u2019s richest men, with a net worth estimated at $32 billion.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z08-uCTFYdg\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Wang controls the Dalian Wanda Group, and already owns a few U.S. entertainment interests, including the AMC movie theater chain, which he acquired in 2012 for $2.6 billion. That company has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/amc-issues-1-4-billion-in-debt-to-pay-for-carmike-and-odeon-uci-acquisitions\/\">since agreed to buy<\/a> competitor Carmike Cinemas for $1.4 billion, which will make Wanda the largest theater owner in the world.<\/p>\n<p>In January, the Wanda Group paid $3.5 billion in cash for Legendary Entertainment, the movie studio that has either produced or co-financed films such as <em>Pacific Rim<\/em> and <em>The Dark Knight<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Wanda\u2014which <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wanda_Group\">had revenues last year<\/a> of $39 billion\u2014owns 134 shopping malls, 82 luxury hotels, 213 movie theaters, 99 department&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redice.tv\/news\/chinese-billionaire-set-sights-on-buying-hollywood\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dick Clark Productions isn\u2019t exactly a household name.
