It continues the theme of illuminating the imposition of great power behind a facade of propaganda as news. \u00a0In 2011, President Obama announced a \u2018pivot to Asia\u2019 of US forces: almost two-thirds of American naval power would be transferred to Asia and the Pacific by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The undeclared rationale for this was the \u2018threat\u2019 from China, by some measure now the greatest economic power. The Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter, says US policy is to confront those \u2018who see America\u2019s dominance and want to take that away from us\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The film examines power in both countries and how nuclear weapons, in American eyes, are the bedrock of its dominance. In its first \u2018chapter\u2019, the film reveals how most of the population of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific were unwittingly made into nuclear guinea pigs in a programme whose secrets \u2013 and astonishing archive \u2013 are related to the presence of a missile base now targeting China.\u00a0<em>The Coming War on China<\/em>\u00a0will be released in cinemas in the UK on December 1st and broadcast on ITV (in the UK) on December 6th.<\/p>\n<p>TJC: <em>How do you assess Australia\u2019s role in America\u2019s \u2018Pivot to Asia\u2019?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>JP: Australia is virtually the 51st state of the US. \u00a0Although China is Australia\u2019s biggest trader, on which much of the national economy relies, \u2018confronting China\u2019 is the diktat from&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2016\/10\/28\/confronting-china-an-interview-with-john-pilger\/\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TJC: Please tell us about your new film,\u00a0The Coming War on China.
