Trump says Hillary Clinton would be in jail if he were in charge of the justice system, promising to hire a special prosecutor to \u201clook into her situation\u201d if he’s elected president.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the second presidential debate on Sunday, Clinton said it was \u201cawfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the laws in this country.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Quickly responding to that remark, Trump said that was \u201cbecause you’d be in jail\u201d<\/em> if that were the case.<\/p>\n Trump also promised that he would hire a special prosecutor to look into the Clinton email scandal.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I win, I am going to instruct my Attorney General to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation, because there has never been so many lies, so much deception, there has never been anything like it, and we’re going to have a special prosecutor,”<\/em> the Republican candidate said.<\/p>\n Clinton declined to address Trump’s vow directly, but accused everything he said of being \u201cabsolutely false.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cBut I’m not surprised,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would be impossible to be fact-checking Donald all the time, I would never get to talk about all the things I want to…\u201d<\/em> she added, encouraging people to go to her website for real-time fact-checking of her opponent.<\/p>\n The debate continued into a constant exchange of jabs between the two candidates, with Clinton accusing Trump of possibly having close connections with Russia \u2013 a claim which the Republican candidate called \u201cso ridiculous.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Responding to a reference Clinton made about the \u201clate great Abraham Lincoln,\u201d<\/em> Trump said that \u201cHonest Abe didn’t lie.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThat’s the difference between\u00a0Abraham Lincoln and you,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n When Trump accused Clinton of wanting to raise taxes for Americans, Clinton accused the Republican candidate of living \u201cin his own reality.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Trump also introduced a fair share of sarcasm to the debate, saying \u201ccongratulations, great job\u201d<\/em> to Clinton over her \u201cbad judgments\u201d<\/em> on Libya, Syria, and Iraq.<\/p>\n But the candidates were forced to share a little kindness at the end of the debate, when asked if they could name one positive thing that they respect in one another.<\/p>\n Clinton said she respects Trump’s children.<\/p>\n The Republican candidate said he takes the remark as a \u201ccompliment,\u201d<\/em> but said he wasn’t sure if it was truly meant to be one.<\/p>\n In response, Trump praised Clinton for being a \u201cfighter.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cShe doesn\u2019t quit, she doesn\u2019t give up. I respect that. I tell it like it is.
