{"id":267626,"date":"2016-09-15T12:12:12","date_gmt":"2016-09-15T12:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/hold-cameron-to-account-for-ill-conceived-libya-war-tory-mp\/"},"modified":"2016-09-15T22:16:09","modified_gmt":"2016-09-15T22:16:09","slug":"hold-cameron-to-account-for-ill-conceived-libya-war-tory-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/hold-cameron-to-account-for-ill-conceived-libya-war-tory-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"Hold Cameron to account for \u2018ill conceived\u2019 Libya war \u2013 Tory MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2016.09\/thumbnail\/57da68fcc36188dd208b4776.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Former PM David Cameron should be summoned to Parliament to account for his decisions during the \u2018ill-conceived\u2019 2011 Libya war, according to a Tory MP.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The call follows a scathing report by the Foreign Affairs Committee which found Cameron \u201c<em>ultimately responsible<\/em>\u201d for the disastrous war which plunged the North African state into chaos and led to the rise of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS\/ISIL) in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, who sits on the committee, said the former PM, who stepped down as MP a day before the report was published, should be summoned before the committee at the \u201c<em>earliest opportunity.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rosindell told the Telegraph on Wednesday that he would ask the committee\u2019s outspoken chairman Crispin Blunt \u201c<em>to summon David Cameron.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It is right that he should give us a full account of what happened. I would have thought Mr. Cameron would want to defend himself, given the serious nature of the allegations we have made against him.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Cameron has allies on the issue of Libya. One the UK\u2019s most powerful civil servants has spoken in his favor.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the Guardian on Wednesday evening, cabinet secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood argued there had been no issues with the decision-making processes in Whitehall.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n27e8Rrmjgs\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He also rejected a suggestion made in the report that intelligence and defense chiefs should be able to ask for a specific instruction if they believe their orders go against national interests.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the UK former ambassador to Libya, Oliver Miles, put up a robust defense of the war while speaking to RT.<\/p>\n<p>He also rejected claims that the conflict had parallels with Iraq, arguing that in Libya there had been a revolution in the country which had been \u201c<em>successful in the east and unsuccessful in the west<\/em>\u201d resulting in Gaddafi\u2019s threats to carry out a campaign of genocide.<\/p>\n<p>He said the international community had, despite the shortage of time, acted quickly at the UN to prevent that genocide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/359412-cameron-libya-summons-pariment\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
