Brexit negotiations may be kept so secret not even Parliament will be told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.rt.com\/files\/2016.09\/thumbnail\/57d7d04ac36188eb628b4732.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Until Article 50 is initiated and Britain officially begins the process of leaving the European Union, no news on Brexit negotiations will be disclosed to the public, MPs or peers \u2013 not even in private.&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The announcement was made by Secretary of State for Leaving the EU David Davis, who told the House of Lords: <em>\u201cClearly there is a need for Parliament to be informed without giving away our negotiating position. I may not be able to tell you everything, even in private hearings.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He did, however, insist the process would be as clear as possible, adding: <em>\u201cI can entirely see accountability after the event, that\u2019s very clear. In advance, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s possible for parliamentarians to micro-manage the process and wouldn\u2019t give us an optimum outcome for the country.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMuch of the confidentiality I\u2019m talking about will be time-related. We can tell you something late but we can\u2019t tell you in advance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI don\u2019t think this will be a blind process from beginning to end. I\u2019d be astonished if it were. It\u2019s not going to be a \u2018black box\u2019 out of which a treaty drops at the end.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0yGLXnRTZfE?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Davis was giving evidence to the House of Lords EU Committee after Prime Minister Theresa May refused to give the House of Commons a <em>\u201crunning commentary\u201d<\/em> on the Brexit process.<\/p>\n<p>Projections on how the British economy or law would look after Brexit have also been minimal from Tory frontbenchers.<\/p>\n<p>Official Brexit negotiations are likely to begin early next year.
