Conservatives Upset Over Jim Carrey\u2019s \u2018Assault Rifle\u2019 Tweet<\/h2>\n

Add Jim Carrey to the list of celebrities who have earned the ire of the right for publicly expressing an anti-gun sentiment. The actor, who is mostly known for comedic roles, took on a serious tone when he used Twitter to focus on the gun debate that has emerged in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., school shootings.<\/p>\n

The backlash began after Carrey tweeted the following over the weekend:<\/p>\n

Predictably, the actor\u2019s statement did not go over well with those on the right with pro-gun views.<\/p>\n

The Huffington Post:<\/strong><\/p>\n

This, of course, did not go over well with those who fear Obama himself will at any minute walk through their front door and take away their guns (except the ones they use for skeet shooting).<\/p>\n

Fox Nation referred to the comment as \u201cnasty\u201d, while conservative blog WND noted, \u201c\u2018Dumb and Dumber\u2019 doesn\u2019t begin to cover this one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Red Alert Politics writer Erin Brown wrote about it at length, decrying the tweet as a \u201ccareless remark … rooted in the shallow, parroted talking points so commonly espoused by liberal elites.\u201d She went on to lament the popularity of Carrey\u2019s statement: \u201cSadly, his divisive comment has received more than 3,400 retweets and more than 1,600 \u2018favorites\u2019 as of this printing, proving once again that the power wielded by Hollywood celebrities carries a very real influence.\u201d<\/p>\n
