What\u2019s a Neocon To Do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bill Kristol is downright despondent<\/a>
\n after his failed
\n search<\/a> for an alternative to Donald Trump. Max Boot is indignant<\/a>
\n about his \u201cstupid<\/a>\u201d
\n party\u2019s willingness to ride a bragging bull into a delicate China<\/a>
\n policy shop. And the leading light of the first family of military interventionism
\n \u2013 Robert
\n Kagan<\/a> \u2013 is actually
\n lining up Neoconservatives<\/a> behind the Democratic nominee for president of
\n the United States.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Democrats have become the party of bare-knuckled, full-throated
\n American Exceptionalism. That transformation was announced with a vein-popping
\n zeal<\/a> by retired general and wannabe
\n motivational screamer<\/a> John Allen at the Democratic convention in the City
\n of Brotherly Love. During his \u201cspeech,\u201d a few plaintive protests of \u201cno
\n more war<\/a>\u201d were actually drowned-out by Democrats chanting \u201cUSA-USA-USA!\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the same Democratic Party often criticized by Kagan & Co. as the
\n purveyors of timidity, flaccidity, and moral perfidy. It\u2019s not that Democrats
\n haven\u2019t dropped bombs, dealt arms, and overturned regimes. They have. And they\u2019ve
\n even got the Peace Prize-winning Obama-dropper<\/a>
\n to prove it. But unlike enthusiastically belligerent Republicans, the Dems are
\n supposed to be the party that does it, but doesn\u2019t really like to do it.<\/p>\n

But now, they\u2019ve got Hillary Clinton. And she\u2019s weaponized<\/a>
\n the State Department. She really
\n likes<\/a> regime change. And her nominating convention not only embraced the
\n military, but it sanctified the very Gold Star families that Neocon-style interventionism
\n creates. It certainly created
\n the pain<\/a> of the Khan family who lost their son in the illegal<\/a>
\n war in Iraq. But the Dems didn\u2019t mention that sad fact as they grabbed the flag
\n away from the Republicans.<\/p>\n

Now that\u2019s truly Neo-confusing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It kinda feels like reality has slipped off its axis and we\u2019ve landed on a
\n Bizarro World<\/a> version
\n of America. Democrats are acting like Republicans. Pat Buchanan is championing
\n the GOP\u2019s \u201cPeace
\n Candidate<\/a>.\u201d And the Neocons are fleeing from a party they\u2019ve used like a
\n geopolitical cudgel for the better part of three decades.<\/p>\n

At first glance, it all makes sense. Trump captured the GOP nomination in no
\n small part by trashing two of the Neocons\u2019 favorite things ever \u2013 the Bush family
\n and the Iraq War. He also suggested early on that he\u2019d approach the Israeli
\n occupation of the West Bank and Gaza as (gasp!) an honest broker. Trump said
\n he really wanted to \u201cmake
\n that deal<\/a>.\u201d Without irony, one-time Neocon
\n wonderboy<\/a> Marco Rubio remarked that it isn\u2019t a \u201creal
\n estate deal<\/a>\u201d when, in fact, that\u2019s exactly what it is.<\/p>\n

But the ever-pliable Trump quickly
\n got religion<\/a> on Israel. He did an about-face<\/a>,
\n marched into AIPAC\u2019s annual confab, and
\n staked out a claim<\/a> on the…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
