It was not that he had failed as leader; he was never given a chance to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>LSE researchers found that 75 per cent of articles \u201ceither distorted or failed to represent his actual views on subjects\u201d. Worse, in only 11 per cent of stories were his views fairly represented. In terms of tone, less than 10 per cent of reports were judged as positive.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, I suggested that it was difficult to imagine the broadcast media, and especially the BBC, had done any better.<\/p>\n<p>Now the data are in, and \u2013 surprise, surprise \u2013 the BBC\u2019s performance\u00a0is\u00a0even\u00a0more dismal than that of the press.<\/p>\n<p>The Media Reform Coalition and Birbeck, University of London, studied the coverage in both the press and broadcast media of the recent attempted Labour leadership coup and found \u201cclear and consistent bias\u201d against Corbyn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2016\/07\/study-exposes-bbcs-deep-anti-corbyn-bias\/screen-shot-2016-07-29-at-18-49-41\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-63510\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-63510\" src=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-29-at-18.49.41-1024x668.png\" alt=\"Screen-Shot-2016-07-29-at-18.49.41\" width=\"500\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-29-at-18.49.41-1024x668.png 1024w, http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-29-at-18.49.41-300x196.png 300w, http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-29-at-18.49.41-768x501.png 768w, http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-29-at-18.49.41.png 1126w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>Like the LSE report, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediareform.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Corbynresearch.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">new research<\/a> argues that \u201cimbalanced reporting\u201d has become so grave that it poses a serious threat to the democratic process.<\/p>\n<p>One graph in particular is shocking. It shows how the BBC\u2019s early evening news programme has treated Corbyn \u2013 and it ain\u2019t pretty.<\/p>\n<p>The graph shows that\u00a0the BBC is failing to\u00a0make even the most minimal efforts at\u00a0even-handedness.
