I certainly don\u2019t want to divide our community. I believe in equality and human rights,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Picard added.<\/p>\n<p>The apology comes after the group released a controversial poster online, which has since been dubbed the\u00a0<em>\u201chot lesbians ad.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The picture showed two women kissing, and a caption stating:\u00a0<em>\u201cIn Canada lesbians are considered hot! In Saudi Arabia if you\u2019re a lesbian YOU DIE! Why are we getting our oil from countries that don\u2019t think lesbians are hot?!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Underneath, the catchphrase read:<em>\u00a0\u201cChoose Equality! Choose Canadian oil!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The picture triggered an outburst of criticism implying that the phrase was \u201cobjectifying\u201d women.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThat poster was disgusting, fetishizing queer women and reducing the existence of lesbians to something for men\u2019s pleasure \u2013 for something for men to find \u2018hot\u2019,\u201d<\/em> Jessa Evenden wrote on the Canada Oil Sands Community page, where the ad was posted.<\/p>\n<p>Following public backlash, the ad was removed from the page. It remains unclear whether Saudi oil exporters felt similarly insulted, but some Canadians suggested \u201cbetter\u201d ways the ad could have been phrased.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere are so many BETTER ways Robbie could have conveyed the same message:\u00a0\u201cX number of same sex marriages in Alberta in 2015, X number of homosexuals beheaded in Saudi Arabia in 2015\u2026Or if one want\u2019s to talk about the difference in women\u2019s rights, In Saudi Arabia women can\u2019t drive cars.
