Campaigners say the claim is not valid.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling, which was made in June, said: \u201c<em>The Court notes that the marbles were removed from Greece in the early 19th century.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>In order to bring the matter within the temporal jurisdiction of the Court, the applicant has sought to rely on the refusal of the United Kingdom to enter into mediation with Greece concerning the return of the marbles and the continuing refusal to return the marbles.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/311085-kohinoor-britain-india-vaz\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/img.rt.com\/files\/2015.07\/thumbnail\/55b8cf34c46188e9198b4607.jpg\" alt=\"Imperial State Crown\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Given the \u201c<em>removal \u2026 occurred some 150 years before the Convention was drafted and ratified by the respondent state<\/em>\u201d the complaint \u201c<em>appeared to be inadmissible.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The marbles currently reside in the British Museum and are not the only imperial acquisition whose return has been demanded.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2015 Labour MP Keith Vaz called on then-Prime Minister David Cameron to return the giant diamond which adorns the Queen\u2019s crown to its native India.<\/p>\n<p>When first mined the diamond was a gargantuan 793 carats. It changed hands between various invading powers before ending up in the possession of the British after they confiscated it from the Sikh Empire.<\/p>\n<p>After arriving in Britain in 1850, Queen Victoria had it reduced to 108 carats. Today it is the centerpiece of Queen Elizabeth\u2019s crown.
