{"id":257044,"date":"2016-07-20T19:05:25","date_gmt":"2016-07-20T19:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/ukip-councilor-jokes-that-remain-voters-should-be-killed\/"},"modified":"2016-07-20T19:05:25","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T19:05:25","slug":"ukip-councilor-jokes-that-remain-voters-should-be-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/ukip-councilor-jokes-that-remain-voters-should-be-killed\/","title":{"rendered":"UKIP councilor \u2018jokes\u2019 that Remain voters should be killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2016.07\/thumbnail\/578f9a83c46188080c8b457a.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        A London UKIP councilor faces a probe after \u201cjoking\u201d on social media that people who voted to remain in the EU in last month\u2019s referendum should be killed.&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Terence Nathan, who sits on Bromley Council in southeast London, wrote on his Facebook page:<em> \u201cTime to start killing these people till Article 50 is invoked, perhaps remainers will get the message then.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After another Facebook user expressed concern over the post, Nathan added:<em> \u201cNot threatening anyone, no need for threats just a bullet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that an investigation into the comments is underway.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan, who has since deleted his post and said his comments were <em>\u201cmeant to be taken with a pinch of salt.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI thought it was so extreme as to be obviously daft,\u201d<\/em> he told the Bromley Times.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I did not think anyone would take it seriously but some obviously have and I greatly regret this.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Anyone would tell you that I hold dear both respect and democracy, I would never seriously have advocated such violence.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Police in Bromley are aware of comments apparently posted online by a Bromley Councillor. Enquiries into this matter are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bromley MPS (@MPSBromley) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MPSBromley\/status\/755507802295111685\">July 19, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>A spokesperson for the council declined to comment but confirmed that it has launched an internal investigation<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a UKIP spokesman backed Nathan, saying:<em> \u201cCllr Nathan was obviously joking. He has apologized.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nathan\u2019s comments come just one month after MP and Remain campaigner Jo Cox was murdered on the steps of her constituency surgery. Her attacker, a former psychiatric patient, is believed to have shouted \u201cBritain First\u201d before carrying out the attack.
