During May, at least 4,164 people were killed and 2,396
\nwere wounded<\/b> in Iraq. These figures should be considered very low
\nestimates. Heavy fighting at the Fallujah and Mosul frontlines prevents
\nindependent verification of any reports, but we do know there is heaving
\nfighting going on. In April<\/a>,
\n4,609 were killed and 1,772 were injured.<\/p>\n

At least 652 civilians were killed, and 1,852 were wounded.
\nSecurity personnel lost 290 members, while 438 more were wounded. At least
\n3,218 militants were also killed, and 106 more were wounded, according to media
\nreports.<\/p>\n

Also killed in Iraq during May were two American service
\nmembers, one Australian contractor, and an Australian N.G.O. worker. Several
\nU.S. service members were wounded.<\/p>\n

In other news<\/b>:<\/p>\n

A U.S.
\nservice member was wounded<\/a> in northern Iraq near Erbil<\/b>. Although the
\nservice member was not participating in \u201cactive combat,\u201d the injuries were the
\nresult of indirect fire from Islamic State militants.<\/p>\n

Islamic State militants staged<\/a>
\na counter attack on Iraqi forces in southern Fallujah<\/b>, particularly in
\nthe Nuaimiya<\/i> area. Several humanitarian groups publicly addressed their
\nfears that conditions in Fallujah are deteriorating for civilians; many are
\nbeing used as human
\nshields<\/a>. Witnesses in Fallujah say<\/a>
\nthat the militants are angry at the lack of support and have been rounding up
\nyoung men and boys.<\/p>\n

At least 116 people were killed and 34 were wounded <\/b>in
\nrecent violence:<\/p>\n

A suicide
\nbomber<\/a> targeting militamen killed
\nfour people and wounded 13 more<\/a> in Suleiman Bek<\/b>.<\/p>\n

In Baghdad<\/b>, a bomb near a Za\u2019afaraniya<\/i> medical
\ncenter killed
\none person and wounded six more<\/a>. A sniper killed
\none policeman and wounded two more<\/a> at a checkpoint in Arab Jabour<\/i>. Two
\npeople were killed and eight were wounded<\/a> in a blast in Yusufiya<\/i>.<\/p>\n

A roadside bomb in Maktab<\/b> killed
\na civilian and wounded two more<\/a>, who were trying to escape Daesh territory.<\/p>\n

Two
\nPeshmerga were killed and several were wounded<\/a> while liberating four
\nvillage near Mosul<\/b>.<\/p>\n

In Bashir<\/b>, a bomb wounded
\nthree militiamen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Security forces estimate that 75
\nmilitants were killed<\/a> during battles in Fallujah<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Peshmerga forces in Makhmour<\/b> killed
\n22 militants<\/a> during an attack.<\/p>\n

At least seven
\nmilitants were killed<\/a> in Qaim<\/b>.<\/p>\n
