MAREA&#8217;s estimated bandwidth capacity will reach 160 terabits per second, the company said, and will have eight fiber pairs instead of two, which is common for such cables.<\/p>\n<p>The 6,600km (4,101 mile) submarine cable system will span from Virginia Beach, Virginia, to Bilbao, Spain, becoming the first cable of its kind to connect the US and Southern Europe, Microsoft said. The cable system will be managed and run by Telxius, a global telecommunications infrastructure company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telefonica.com\/en\/web\/press-office\/-\/telefonica-creates-telxius-a-global-telecommunications-infrastructure-company\">created<\/a> by Spanish telecom giant Telef\u00f3nica in February.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\" readability=\"6.497005988024\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"6.497005988024\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Telefonica to manage MAREA,  an undersea 160Tbps cable jointly owned by Facebook and Microsoft.
