The results certainly proved to be an eye opener as it found that hundreds of people were voting despite having died.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p><a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/341640-voter-fraud-identity-theft\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/img.rt.com\/files\/2016.05\/thumbnail\/57281517c46188cf538b4592.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Charles Mostoller\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s very troubling because it basically dilutes the voice of the lawful voter,\u201d<\/em> Ellen Swensen, who is a member of \u201cTrue the Vote,\u201d a nationwide voter-rights group, told <a href=\"http:\/\/losangeles.cbslocal.com\/2016\/05\/23\/cbs2-investigation-uncovers-votes-being-cast-from-grave-year-after-year\/\">CBS2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat it does is every single vote that\u2019s cast by a dead voter actually cancels out a vote of a lawful voter cause if they voted for one candidate and you voted let\u2019s say for another, your vote got canceled out,\u201d<\/em> she added.<\/p>\n<p>The broadcaster found that a total of 265 people from Southern California had been voting from the grave, with the vast majority, 215, based in Los Angeles County.<\/p>\n<p>Of those 215 in Los Angeles County, 212 are registered to vote in next month\u2019s state primary elections.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou\u2019re not supposed to have dead people on the rolls,\u201d<\/em> said J. Christian Adams, who is with the Public Interest Legal Foundation, as cited by CBS2.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p><a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/200619-obama-chicag-vote-once\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/img.rt.com\/files\/news\/30\/fa\/b0\/00\/obama-chicag-vote-once.n.jpg\" alt=\"U.S. President Barack Obama speaks at a campaign rally for Democratic challenger for Wisconsin Governor Mary Burke at North Devision High School on October 28, 2014 in Milwaukee (AFP Photo)\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>California has been slow to implement changes following the passing of the Help America Vote Act in 2002, which was a direct response to voting irregularities in Florida during the 2000 presidential election. The new legislation was meant to enforce statewide voter registration systems that would get rid of those ineligible to vote.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe problem is California has been the most derelict state in the country in implementing statewide databases that are required under federal law. They just blew it off for over a decade,\u201d<\/em> Adams added.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation uncovered some voters who have become regulars at the ballot box, despite having been dead for over a quarter of a century. CBS2 cited the example of a woman who passed away in 1988, but still managed to vote in 2014 \u2013 26 years after she died.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s very sad that people can just take somebody\u2019s name and go out and vote for them,\u201d<\/em> said Annette Givans.<\/p>\n<p>Givans has first-hand knowledge of just how those who have passed away can cast their votes.
