Former London Mayor Ken Livingstone is on the defensive again after the broadcast of an interview with an Arabic TV station in which he calls the creation of Israel \u201ca great catastrophe\u201d amid Labour\u2019s ongoing anti-Semitism row.<\/p>\n
Livingstone was suspended from the party last week for suggesting Adolf Hitler supported Zionism. He had been defending Naz Shah, an MP who was accused anti-Semitism for sharing controversial comments on Facebook.<\/p>\n

In it the veteran politician discusses Iraq and Libya before moving onto Israel.<\/p>\n \u201cThe creation of the state of Israel was a great catastrophe,\u201d<\/em> he said. \u201cWe should have absorbed the post World War II Jewish refugees in Britain and America. They could all have been resettled, whereas 70 years later, the situation is still very tense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Livingstone then asserted that there is a potential for more wars around the globe, including a nuclear conflict.<\/p>\n When the reporter asked if he supported the global movement for boycotting Israel, Livingstone confirmed he has never bought anything from Israel.<\/p>\n He also claimed Hitler wanted originally to \u201cdeport all the Zionists to Israel.\u201d<\/em> \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIf you look at Arab communities at the time, there were large Jewish communities that never suffered threats or attacks,\u201d<\/em> he added. \u201cBut all of this was destroyed with the establishment of the state of Israel.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Livingstone then suggested that Israelis in the Middle East had been deported to Israel, calling it \u201cunparalleled.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n READ MORE: Labour councilors suspended over \u2018anti-Israel\u2019 social media posts<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Labour councilor Alan Quinn blamed Livingstone for the loss of two seats in Bury in Thursday\u2019s local elections. The town has the UK\u2019s second largest Jewish population.<\/p>\n In an interview with Sky News, Livingstone defended Labour\u2019s results, claiming MPs are \u201cplanning and plotting\u201d<\/em> against the party\u2019s leader, Jeremy Corbyn.<\/p>\n He also brought up Hitler and Zionists once again during an interview with presenter Dermot Murnaghan who asked if he should simply \u201cshut up\u201d<\/em> over the issue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Via RT<\/a>.
