{"id":239469,"date":"2016-04-22T12:38:45","date_gmt":"2016-04-22T12:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/hillary-pac-spending-1m-to-forcefully-correct-social-media-trolls\/"},"modified":"2016-04-22T22:41:19","modified_gmt":"2016-04-22T22:41:19","slug":"hillary-pac-spending-1m-to-forcefully-correct-social-media-trolls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/hillary-pac-spending-1m-to-forcefully-correct-social-media-trolls\/","title":{"rendered":"Hillary PAC spending $1m to \u2018forcefully correct\u2019 social media trolls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pro-Hillary Clinton Super Pac is spending serious money to tackle negative Clinton comments across social media.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Describing its focus as being \u201c<em>to defend Hillary Clinton from baseless attacks<\/em>\u201d, Correct the Record is launching a digital taskforce and investing over $1million to \u201c<em>push back on online harassment<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Correct The Record will invest more than $1 million into Barrier Breakers 2016 activities, including the more than tripling of its digital operation to engage in online messaging both for Secretary Clinton and to push back against attackers on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and Instagram<\/em>,\u201d said the PAC in a <a href=\"http:\/\/correctrecord.org\/barrier-breakers-2016-a-project-of-correct-the-record\/\">statement<\/a> released Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The statement says \u201c<em>lessons learned from online engagement with \u2018Berni Bros\u2019 during the Democratic Primary will be applied to the rest of the primary season and general election \u2013 responding quickly and forcefully to negative attacks and false narratives<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The PAC also says it will be \u201c<em>pushing out information to Sanders supporters<\/em>\u201d to encourage them to support Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>Super PACs aren\u2019t normally allowed to coordinate with candidates, but FEC loopholes mean Correct the Record can &#8211; a move discovered by the Sunlight Foundation&#8217;s Libby Watson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The whole reasoning behind (Supreme Court decision) Citizens United rests on (PACs) being independent, but Correct the Record claims it can coordinate<\/em>,\u201d Watson told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2016\/04\/21\/hillary-pac-spends-1-million-to-correct-commenters-on-reddit-and-facebook.html?source=TDB&amp;via=FB_Page\">The Daily Beast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s not totally clear what their reasoning is, but it seems to be that material posted on the Internet for free \u2014 like, blogs \u2014 doesn\u2019t count as an \u2018independent expenditure<\/em>\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/340608-hillary-clinton-social-media\/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
