{"id":233825,"date":"2016-03-24T22:10:45","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T22:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/brits-more-anxious-and-depressed-than-ever-survey\/"},"modified":"2016-03-24T22:10:45","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T22:10:45","slug":"brits-more-anxious-and-depressed-than-ever-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/brits-more-anxious-and-depressed-than-ever-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"Brits \u2018more anxious and depressed than ever\u2019 \u2013 survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2016.03\/thumbnail\/56f41b35c36188f87a8b45b1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Anxiety, depression and feelings of isolation are on the rise in Britain, according to a wellbeing survey by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).<\/p>\n<div readability=\"73.424283765348\">\n<p>The ONS found that despite record low unemployment and crime, so-called \u201c<em>subjective<\/em>\u201d wellbeing has gotten worse, with more Brits worrying about their health \u2013 both physical and mental \u2013 than in previous years.<\/p>\n<p>As the government\u2019s austerity policies enter a sixth year, the UK\u2019s official statistics agency reports increased levels of anxiety and depression, up 19.7 percent in 2014 from the year before.<\/p>\n<p>The report links mental health to individual and national wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>People with positive mental health will feel good about themselves, and will feel they are better equipped to cope with their problems, whereas those people that indicate depression or anxiety may find this more challenging,<\/em>\u201d the reports says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>This will undoubtedly impact on personal and therefore national wellbeing.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More women (22.5 percent) than men (16.8 percent) indicated they had experienced feelings of depression or anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>However, given that the male suicide rate reached its highest level since 2001 in February last year \u2013 with men three times more likely to take their lives than women \u2013 it\u2019s thought this lower survey figure could be down to a reluctance among men to report mental health problems.<\/p>\n<p>Brits aged 45 to 54 reported the highest levels of depression and anxiety (22.8 percent), while the lowest levels were among those aged 65 to 74 (14.4 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Satisfaction with health in the UK also fell from 66.3 percent in the financial year ending 2011 to 57.8 percent in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ONS, \u201c<em>The way in which people view their health is crucial to wellbeing<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Although we are living longer healthier lives, we are less satisfied with our health.
