{"id":233454,"date":"2016-03-23T07:46:46","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T07:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/twitter-outrage-as-pro-brexiteers-use-brussels-attacks-for-political-point-scoring\/"},"modified":"2016-03-23T07:46:46","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T07:46:46","slug":"twitter-outrage-as-pro-brexiteers-use-brussels-attacks-for-political-point-scoring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/twitter-outrage-as-pro-brexiteers-use-brussels-attacks-for-political-point-scoring\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter outrage as pro-Brexiteers use Brussels attacks for political point-scoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2016.03\/thumbnail\/56f12916c3618822238b45c6.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Politicians, commentators and journalists who seized upon Tuesday\u2019s terror attacks in Brussels to make a case for Britain to leave the EU have been met with outrage.<\/p>\n<div readability=\"61.065420560748\">\n<p>On Tuesday morning Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS\/ISIL) terrorists carried out attacks on Brussels main airport and one Metro station, killing at least 28 people and injuring more than 100.<\/p>\n<p>Telegraph commentator Allison Pearson and media loudmouth Katie Hopkins both claimed the carnage proved mass immigration should be stopped and European borders closed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jmw-CqaHQH8\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But outraged social media users took to Twitter to criticize the kneejerk politicization of the tragedy, accusing Pearson of \u201c<em>mind-blowing insensitivity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hopkins also angered users for suggesting the suicide bomb attack was the fault of liberal politicians and voters, who advocate taking in more refugees from Syria and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>UKIP MEP Mike Hookem took his opportunity to release a statement suggesting European freedom of movement poses a \u201c<em>threat to [British] security.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\" readability=\"5.9086021505376\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"5.9086021505376\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/allisonpearson\">@allisonpearson<\/a> People are dead, and you&#8217;re jumping on a tragedy to score cheap points.
