Brexit could revive national question, says Sinn Fein"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/335283-brexit-sinn-fein-ireland\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>)  &#8211; <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.rt.com\/files\/2016.03\/thumbnail\/56e2e4eac36188d2288b457b.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Britain leaving the EU should trigger a vote on Irish reunification, according to Sinn Fein\u2019s Martin McGuinness.<\/p>\n<div readability=\"74\">\n<p>The party\u2019s deputy first minister said a Brexit would be a \u201c<em>negative development,<\/em>\u201d representing a \u201c<em>political and economic game-changer.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ireland\u2019s place, north and south, is in Europe and leading change in Europe,<\/em>\u201d McGuinness told the Guardian.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z_jW14NW6Ho\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>If Britain votes to leave the European Union then that could have huge implications for the entire island of Ireland and, given all the predictions, would run counter to the democratic wishes of the Irish people.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The only large Northern Irish party campaigning to leave the EU are the Democratic Unionists. Sinn Fein, the SDLP and the Ulster Unionists are all campaigning to remain.<\/p>\n<p>McGuinness said the 1998 Good Friday agreement contained provisions for a border poll in the event of a Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>If there is a vote in Britain to leave the EU, there is a democratic imperative to provide Irish citizens with the right to vote in a border poll to end partition and retain a role in the EU,<\/em>\u201d McGuinness said.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, peer and hotelier Lord Rana warned that a Brexit would do substantial damage to Northern Irish tourism.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L1G8Kf34nxk\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It will be the worst thing to happen for the Northern Ireland economy especially,<\/em>\u201d the Indian-born businessman told the Belfast Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>I am very, very concerned. Our tourism industry has been doing well despite the downturn.
