Many progressives struggle with the \u201clesser-evil\u201d dilemma. They may sympathize with Green Party positions but fear that voting for Green candidates will give right-wing Republicans control of the U.S. government, as in getting George W. Bush close enough to steal Election 2000 from Al Gore, notes Lawrence Davidson.<\/p>\n

The presumptive presidential candidate for the U.S. Green Party, Dr. Jill Stein, has long held definite ideas <\/u><\/a>of what the party\u2019s position should be on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And, despite some past skepticism<\/u><\/a> from Palestinian advocates, Stein\u2019s position is, from the progressive point of view, as near perfect as one is likely to get from an American politician. She has stated in a position paper the following:<\/p>\n

\u201cUnited States policy regarding Israel and Palestine must be revised to make international law, peace and human rights \u2026 the central priorities. \u2026 The United States has encouraged the worst\u00a0tendencies of the Israeli government as it pursues policies of occupation, apartheid, assassination, illegal settlements, blockades, building nuclear bombs, indefinite detention, collective punishment, and defiance of international law. \u2026 We must reset U.S. policy regarding Israel and Palestine, as part of a broader revision of U.S. policy towards the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n
